Swimming
Last night my riding partner Bridget convinced me to start swimming. I found it a real physical challenge but we managed to keep it up for around 50 minutes. I’m feeling pretty good today but when I got out last night I had a serious case of jelly legs! I think it’s only 4 weeks until the Coffs Marathon mountain bike race!

iPhone development
I’ve been toying with the idea of writing some iPhone apps. I’ve downloaded the SDK and played around a bit but I haven’t really created anything all that interesting. I was browsing a friends blog earlier tonight and I saw that he had helped another friend with some artwork for their iPhone project. I must say I’m very proud that they got their iPhone development off the ground and that it has been a success on the iTunes app store. My best wishes for a successful future writing for the iPhone and I hope I get cracking on it soon. It could just be the circle of people I hang out in, but I have been absolutely stunned at the number of people I know who have an iPhone already. For a device that was released not all that long … Continue reading

The 2008 Olympics
Although I’m not usually that interested in watching sporting events that don’t involve some kind of combustion engine but I must say I’ve been really enjoying the Olympic coverage on television. So far I watched the Womens cycling road race where it was pouring down rain in rivers as they rode around the Great Wall of China – cheering on the young Russian girl in blue who managed to pull a 1 minute 40 second lead over the rest of the pack before being unable to hold the lead towards the end and I had to tear myself away from the television as I found the China VS USA basketball match excellent viewing. I was unaware that the Chinese basketball team was so good and I would consider the Americans to be pretty good at Basketball. (Not watching basketball normally) … Continue reading

Google streetview
There was quite a deal of excitement around my workplace as the discovery went out that google had released street view for most of australia. Like many people I’m sure, I quickly looked up my house but was suprised to see someone elses car in my driveway. Either their photo footage is quite old or someone with a blue stationwagon was loading up my possessions while I was at work. It is interesting that with all the places that can be viewed peope almost always first check the place they are most familiar with. It may be a case of “hey I can see my house from here!”
Iphone blogging
I wanted to try out the iphone wordpress blogging program but unfortunately it required a newer version of wordpress so I had to upgrade. Might as well take it up to 2.6! I attended the Brisbane cocoa heads gathering tonight. I as late and unfortunately missed half of the presentations but saw that there was some knowledge to be gained from the group so I’ll be back next month. Hopefully with an app of my own to discuss. Iphone battery always seems to be either flat or going flat.
Zoidman
I think I drew this last night when I was falling asleep. It was on my screen when I got up this morning… I believe my influences were probably the Ironman movie I saw the other day and Zoidberg from Futurama.

36km and a touch of asthma
I only made it through 36km of riding tonight but thankfully I didn’t get any leg cramps until much later in the ride. I believe I’m actually making a noticeable improvement. The downside to this ride was I started getting asthma on the home stretch. I made it home ok but I’ve learnt my lesson about pushing myself riding especially in the middle of winter.

Big weekend.
Well that was a big weekend. I drove down to my parents place and back, got lots of things done but it really takes it out of you for work the next day. Seeing my father rekindles my desire to take photos.

13+44+39 = tired
A workmate has suggested that the two of us enter the Noosa enduro which is on in about two months. We would be choosing the ‘easy’ 50km offroad option rather than the more extreme 100km course. To build up to this I’ve started riding my mountain bike again. Monday was ok. I rode 13km and afterwards I felt fine. The next day I was due to meet up with my workmate, but I got a bit lost on my first time through a suburb and unfortunately she left the meeting point possibly seconds before my arrival as it was cold and she had been waiting for me for a while. I decided to do the ride by myself and it was all going quite well – I was surprising myself but about 30km into the ride I started cramping up and … Continue reading

My legs are killing me.
I rode 44km tonight on my mountain bike. Just on bike paths and streets doing a lap of Brisbane. My legs are killing me, my stomach has been churning and my legs are periodically cramping. When I was about 30km in I started to get worried I wouldn’t be able to get home but somehow I managed to go the distance. Whilst 44km isn’t a big deal for probably many people who ride bicycles, the next biggest ride I’ve done in recent history was 13km and that was yesterday! Talk about stepping it up! I’m a little worried that my legs will cramp up in my sleep and how sore they might be tomorrow but I was serious about getting back into cycling. I’m not sure if 44km is a good place to start though. I might take tomorrow night off the … Continue reading
